Over three million visits are recorded annually at one of the many IU Libraries destinations: The iconic Herman B Wells Library, the newly renovated Sciences Library, the world-renowned Lilly Library for rare books and manuscripts, the esteemed Cook Music Library, and branch libraries around the Bloomington campus.
Access to extensive subscription-based services, helpful research guides by topic, and digitized materials can be found by starting a search at libraries.indiana.edu. The Libraries also offer individual accounts to the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post and the New York Times for all students.
In the center of campus, the Wells Library is the largest and most visible library with both quiet and group study areas. It also holds millions of research books and materials, government documents, current magazines and periodicals, journals, video games and videos. Inside the Wells Library are two areas designed for modern scholars:
Learning Commons
Located on the main floor of the West Tower of the Wells Library, the Learning Commons (LC) is a technology-infused center that promotes active and collaborative learning. A partnership of the IU Libraries and University Information Technology Services, the LC supports and enhances student learning and research by providing state-of-the-art technology, resources, and services. Offering a writing tutorial center, drop-in and scheduled research consultations, a number of student support partners from across campus, and tech support, the LC can help students at any stage of their school work and research. The upper floors of the West Tower offer 3D printing and large-format printing as well as both quiet and group study areas.
IU Scholars' Commons
Located on the main floor of the East Tower, the Scholars' Commons (SC) connects researchers to expertise, resources, spaces, and learning opportunities to support their work from curiosity to publication. Drawing experts from across campus, services are tailored specifically to graduate students and faculty members. Researchers at every academic level are welcome. Scholars’ Commons Consultation Services and workshops focus on many aspects of the research journey including research technologies, digital project design, survey research, human subject research, scholarly publishing, copyright issues, and even stress management.
